DR. MELISSA SOMMERS has been in practice at Nasa Vision Center for over 20 years. She attended optometry school at Pacific University in Forest Grove Oregon, obtaining her Doctor of Optometry degree in 1978. In 1989 Dr. Sommers became therapeutically certified to treat eye disease. She obtained her undergraduate degree in physiology from the University of California at Davis in 1973. A native Californian she grew up in Southern California.

Dr. Sommers is active in the community serving on the board of Communities in Schools, Bay Area, past president and board member of the Association of Business and Professional Women.

Dr. Sommers is married to Kevin Katz, O.D. who is an optometrist as well and owns the Texas State Optical in Galveston. They have two sons and have lived in Dickinson for the past 20 years.
