DR. MELISSA SOMMERS has been taking care of patients vision and eye health since 1981. She attended optometry school at Pacific University in Forest Grove Oregon. She obtained her undergraduate degree in physiology from the University of California at Davis. A native Californian she grew up in Southern California.

Dr. Sommers is active in the community by providing free eye examinations for Communities in Schools students and eye glasses with the help of the Clear Lake Assistance League. She is a charter member of the Association of Business and Professional Women having served on the board and past president.

Dr. Sommers is married to Kevin Katz, O.D. who is an optometrist as well and owns the Texas State Optical in Galveston. They have two sons and have lived in Dickinson for the past 20 years.
