This really happened.

Sale: 2 pairs of eye-glasses for $99.

OK, but I need just one pair.

"No problem, that will be $249."

Huh? What happened to two pairs for $99?

"Oh, you don't want those. Those are thin lenses. You want these. They're stronger."

No, I want the two pairs for $99. But I want only one pair.

"OK, but they're not as good."

That's all right. I don't wear glasses that much. These will do fine.

"You got it. One pair. That'll be $189."

You're kidding me, right? Two pairs are $100, and one pair is $189?

"Yes, here's a pamphlet that explains the details of the two for $100 offer."

Where? I don't see where it says one pair costs more than two pairs.

"It's on the back. You know, the fine print."

Hey, if I could read the fine print, I wouldn't be in here trying to buy glasses.
