Children's Examinations

This may come as a surprise to many of you, but your child’s first real eye exam by a doctor ( the pediatrician doesn’t count) should be within the first year of life. Considering the importance of vision in the learning process it behooves parents to ensure their child’s vision by having regular eye examinations beginning at age one. At this stage, we can catch excessive or unequal amounts of farsightedness, nearsightedness and astigmatism to help prevent amblyopia and crossed eyes. Vision development and eye health problems can be more easily corrected if treatment is begun early. If your child has not had a professional eye examination, you really don't know how your child is seeing.

NASA Vision Center's Dr. Thomas is proud to be one of 7,000 optometrists nationwide who is participating in InfantSEE, an American Optometric Association public health program that provides complimentary professional eye exams for infants under the age of one. This is an optometric initative to ensure the vision and health of our youngest population.
